LinkJolt stores a referral reference in first-party cookies and local storage for 30 days, plus a click record with the visitor's IP address, user agent, referrer and device type, and the buyer's email and name where your provider sends them. You stay the data controller for your own customers.
LinkJolt's tracking exists to attribute a sale to an affiliate, not to profile your customers. It still handles personal data, so it needs covering in your notices like any other tool on your site.
When someone clicks an affiliate link, LinkJolt stores a short referral reference (the tracking code, the affiliate id and a click id) in first-party cookies and local storage on your site, for a 30 day window. That reference is what links a later purchase back to the affiliate.
The click itself is recorded on LinkJolt's side as well. Each click record holds the visitor's IP address, user agent, referrer, device type and any UTM parameters carried on the link. A short link records the click at the redirect, before the visitor reaches your site, and the tracking script on your own pages reports one too when a visitor arrives on a tracking link.
When a sale comes back from your payment provider, LinkJolt also keeps the buyer's email address and name, where the provider sends them, so you can tell which sale a pending commission belongs to. Stripe, Polar, Lemon Squeezy, Gumroad and GoPay send both, the WooCommerce plugin sends the email only, and Paddle and Apple In-App Purchases send neither. Your Commissions page shows the name abbreviated to a first name and last initial, and never the email. The full name and the email are in that page's Export and in the Developer API.
You remain the data controller for your own customers. Because the tracking script sets cookies, include it in your site's cookie banner and privacy notice, the same way you would any analytics or marketing tag. If you keep a record of the personal data your suppliers hold on your behalf, list the click data and the buyer email and name above.
Visitors and affiliates can request access to or deletion of their data, as described in the LinkJolt Privacy Policy. For your specific obligations in your region, check with your own legal advisor.
Is it safe to connect an AI assistant to LinkJolt?
Yes, within deliberate limits. The connector uses OAuth so you never hand over an API key, access is scoped to one brand, the approval page lists exactly what the assistant can read and write, and approving payouts is never possible.
How does LinkJolt detect affiliate fraud and self-referrals?
LinkJolt uses rule-based checks, not AI. When a tracked sale's customer email matches the affiliate's own, the commission is rejected automatically rather than flagged for your review, and it lands on your Commissions page under Rejected, where you can approve it anyway.
