Can I track affiliate sales for an iOS app?

Yes, for subscription apps. LinkJolt reads Apple App Store Server Notifications v2 and attributes subscriptions through Subscription Offer Codes: you create an offer code in App Store Connect for each affiliate, and a subscription started with that code is credited to them. No SDK, no MMP and no changes to your app code.

Yes, for iOS apps that sell subscriptions through Apple In-App Purchase. LinkJolt tracks them with two things Apple already provides: App Store Server Notifications v2 and Subscription Offer Codes. There is no SDK to add, no mobile measurement partner to pay and no change to your app's code.

How attribution works

Web tracking links cannot follow a customer into the App Store, so attribution uses offer codes instead:

  1. You generate Subscription Offer Codes in App Store Connect.
  2. You add the offer identifiers in LinkJolt, on the Coupons tab of the Campaigns page, and assign one to each affiliate, who shares it the way they would share a coupon code.
  3. When a customer redeems that code to start a subscription, Apple sends LinkJolt a signed server notification. LinkJolt verifies the signature against Apple's root certificate and records the subscription as a conversion for the affiliate whose code was used.
  4. Renewals arrive the same way. If the campaign has recurring commissions switched on, they work exactly like they do for Stripe or Paddle, including any cap you set on the campaign.

What you need

  • Your app's Bundle ID and App Apple ID, entered once under Integrations, on the Apple In-App Purchases card.
  • The LinkJolt notification URL pasted into App Store Connect as your server notification endpoint (there is a second URL for Apple's sandbox environment).
  • At least one offer code per affiliate.

What it does not do

Because attribution is by offer code, a customer who installs the app from an affiliate's link but subscribes without redeeming the code is not attributed. The redemption also has to be what starts the subscription: LinkJolt credits a new or resumed subscription, so a code redeemed by someone who is already subscribed earns nothing. If the offer gives the first period free, that first subscription is recorded with no commission and the affiliate earns from the first paid renewal, which needs recurring commissions switched on. Google Play is not supported. Refunds reported by Apple reverse the commission like refunds from any other processor.
